Fort​ Gordon Cyber District / Alliance for ​Cyber Education​

In 2003, the Alliance for Fort Gordon was established by Congressman Charlie Norwood as a 501c3 non-profit organization as an advocate for Fort Gordon and to protect the community’s interest during the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.

In 2016, after evaluating the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape, the Alliance evolved its mission to promote, coordinate, and serve as an advocate for the Fort Gordon Cyber District, to stimulate investment in cyber growth and to capitalize on opportunities for the benefit of all. The Alliance serves as the lead organization in the establishment of the Fort Gordon Cyber District as the nationally recognized destination for cyber work, life, and play by 2020.

The Fort Gordon Cyber District resides in two states Georgia and South Carolina consisting of the following counties: Columbia, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Burke, Edgefield, and Aiken

The Fort Gordon Cyber District is helping students excel by:
  • Collaborating with the Georgia State Department of Education to develop a four-year Cyber Security Curriculum which prepares students across the state to pursue Cyber Security postsecondary degrees and careers. Two counties in three high schools are already in their second year of implementation.
  • Extending Cyber Education Programs—more than 1,000 hours of professional development for local teachers—and increased student participation in cybersecurity defense competitions by more than 800 percent in 2017.
  • Hosting the National Integrated Cyber Education and Research Center’s (NICERC) national annual conference, Education Discovery Forum. Over 200 teachers from 22 states attended four days’ worth of Cyber Security and STEM training (June 2018).
  • Providing instructors and materials to the region’s first AFA Cyber Camp program.
  • Distributing CyberPatriot’s Elementary School Education Initiative information to entire two state and seven county education committee representatives during cyber education committee meetings (September 2018).
  • Demonstrating success in building civic, community, industry, and education partnerships in promoting CyberPatriot by moving our Regional CyberPatriot team numbers from eight in 2016 to over 80 in 2017, making up approximately 60 percent of the total Cyber Patriot teams in the state of Georgia. 74 teams are currently signed up for CyberPatriot XI.
  • Routinely recognized CyberPatriot participants support during County education board meetings.
  • Championing CyberPatriot visibility in local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Enhancing educational efforts throughout the region, firms such as Unisys have provided mentors and coaches for CyberPatriot teams. In addition, multiple Fort Gordon brigades are providing CyberPatriot mentorship to coaches and students through their Adopt-A-School program.
  • As an associate of the CyberPatriot Center of Excellence Program, the Fort Gordon Cyber District Promotes CyberPatriot​ across two states and seven counties to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future.
