In 2006, The University of Detroit Mercy, which is the lead institution for the coalition, began building Cyber Security awareness across Michigan.  MCISSE now covers the upper Midwest with all five of the National Security Agency Centers of Excellence in Michigan as well as partners from Ohio, Missouri, Colorado, Texas, and as far away as Warwick University in the United Kingdom. 

It has been our honor to help foster the spread of Cybersecurity Education across our region.  The consequence of this effort has been to ensure that the pipeline of potential students are Cyber Security aware, both in practice and as a career choice.  Over the years we have added ten community colleges to our coalition with many of them aligning their curricula to create a seamless, upwardly articulated 2+2+2 educational pathway, from undergraduate to a Master's degree. This allows our students to move from High School into either a college or university of their choice in our region.

In 2015 we took on the challenge of expanding our reach into K-12 education by adding the CyberPatriot program.  The success of this initiative has been amazing. Representatives have spoken at conferences and professional meetings across Michigan! There are ten Universities, ten community colleges and over 1,500 followers on LinkedIn and Twitter following the progress of our CyberPatriot program.
