CyberPatriot XII

CYBERPATRIOT XII (2019-2020)

In total, 6,760 teams registered for CyberPatriot XII, breaking yet another record for team registration. The in-person National Finals Competition was canceled due to the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, but was still held as a virtual/in-home event. Social distancing and stay at home orders prevented teams from meeting to compete, meaning team members had to compete from their individual homes.

Connecting through a Virtual Private Network to our servers, competitors had 3 ½ hours to find and fix as many security issues as they could in seven Windows or Linux operating systems, all while fending off a virtual Red Team of cybersecurity professionals. Teams also had a 90-minute Cisco NetAcad Challenge requiring them to build a complex but secure network using the Cisco Packet Tracer network simulation tool.

The Awards Ceremony was live-streamed for viewers across the country. For the first time ever, winners in the Cisco NetAcad Challenge received educational grants to further pursue their STEM education, thanks to Cyber Diamond sponsor Cisco Systems.
